Alright, so, I decided to take on this project, remaking the Yves Saint Laurent June Box Bag. Yeah, that’s the one. Fancy name, right? Anyway, I’ve always been a hands-on kinda guy, so I figured, why not give this a shot?
First thing I did was look around. I mean, you can find anything on the internet these days. So, I went digging for info about this YSL, or Saint Laurent, whatever they call it now. Turns out, this company has been around since 1961. They made this bag with a bulbous shape and the famous CASSANDRE logo. I saw a bunch of these used bags online, places like, you know, those online stores. They got a ton of ’em, all different kinds.
Now, I needed materials. I got myself some leather, similar to the one they use, kinda like calfskin. This bag has a chain strap, so I found a nice-looking chain that seemed to match the pictures I saw. This thing also has some diamond-quilted stitching, which looked pretty neat. So, I practiced that a bit. It’s like making little diamonds on the leather. Took me a few tries, but I got the hang of it.
Here’s what I did step by step:
- I cut the leather into the shape I needed, based on the pictures of the June Box Bag. I made sure to measure twice, cut once, as my old man used to say.
- Then I started on the stitching. I used a sturdy thread and did that diamond pattern. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s handmade.
- Next, I attached the chain. This was a bit tricky, making sure it was secure but still looked good.
- I even tried to recreate that CASSANDRE logo. That was the hardest part. I used some metal pieces and shaped them as best as I could.
After all that, I finally put it all together. It took some time, a bit of sweat, and maybe a few curse words here and there, but I did it. It’s not exactly like the original, but it’s got that homemade touch, you know? I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s got that rustic, handmade charm. It’s not perfect, but neither am I.
The End Result
So there you have it. My very own version of the Yves Saint Laurent June Box Bag. It might not be the real deal, but I made it with my own two hands, and that’s something. Maybe it’ll inspire someone else to try making something they like. Who knows?
And hey, it’s not about whether YSL is the same as Saint Laurent or not. It’s about making something you like, something you’re proud of. That’s what counts.
