Alright, so I finally decided to give this whole remake thing a shot, and what did I pick? The YSL June Box Bag. Yeah, that one. It is kind of like a box, and I thought, “Why not?” I’ve seen a lot of bags in my time, but this one, it is a head-scratcher.
First, I spent a lot of time to look at the pictures of this bag online. This YSL, they got lots of bags, but I need to focus on this June Box one. It is like a little box with a shiny YSL logo, which is on all their bags, I noticed. They say it is a classic style, never goes out of style. Sounds fancy, huh?
Then, I started to gather all the stuff I needed. I got some leather that looked kind of like the one in the pictures, some thread, and those metal bits for the logo and the clasp. It was a bit of a scavenger hunt, I tell ya.
- Cutting the leather was the first big step. I made a pattern based on the pictures, trying to get the shape and size right. It was not perfect, but hey, it is a remake, not a replica.
- Next, I started to sew the pieces together. This was tricky. I used a sewing machine for the straight parts and did the rest by hand. My fingers got a bit sore, I won’t lie.
- The YSL logo was another challenge. I found a metal piece that looked similar and managed to attach it to the front. It did not look exactly the same, but it gave the right vibe.
Putting it all together was like doing a puzzle. I had to figure out how the flap worked, how to attach the strap, and all those little details. It took some time, and there was a lot of trial and error. I even had to redo some parts a couple of times.
In the end, I had something that resembled the June Box Bag. It was not perfect, of course. The stitching was a bit rough in places, and the leather was not the same quality, but it had that boxy shape and the YSL-ish logo.
It was a fun little project.
It is not something I would sell or anything, but it was a good way to spend a few afternoons. Plus, I learned a thing or two about making bags. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was kind of satisfying to see it all come together. This June Box thing, though, it is a tough one to crack!
