Alright, guys, today I’m going to share my little project of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227G-010. I’ve always been a huge fan of Patek Philippe, especially the Calatrava series. The clean lines and classic design just get me every time. I mean, it is really cool! So, I got this idea to try and remake one myself. The 5227G-010, with its white gold case, is a real beauty. Let’s say I’m really into this specific model!
First off, I started by gathering all the information I could find about this watch. I found out the case diameter is 39 mm and the height is 9.24 mm. Pretty slim, right? It’s got this self-winding movement, which is kind of a big deal in the watch world. And the specific one I’m looking at, the 5227G-010, it’s all about that pure, simple elegance, you know? I began to get all the parts I needed according to these specs.
So, I looked around for prices and found some listings around $28,190. Crazy, right? But it gave me a good idea of what I was dealing with. Of course, I wasn’t going to buy a real one, just wanted to see how close I could get with my remake. It is kind of exciting to do this, I had never done this before.
The Process
I started with the case. Getting the right size and shape was crucial. I worked with some materials to try and mimic that 39 mm diameter and the thin profile. It took a few tries, but I finally got something that looked pretty decent. The self-winding movement was the hardest part, to be honest. I played around with some tiny gears and springs, trying to get that smooth motion. It was tough, but super satisfying when I finally got it working. I kept trying and making little tweaks here and there.
- Gathering Information: I spent hours online, reading about the watch, looking at pictures, and understanding its features. Found some information: “Patek Philippe Calatrava Ultra-Thin Automatic Ladies’ watch 7200R-001. Ultra-thin mechanical self-winding movement.”
- Finding Parts: It took days to find the right materials. I visited a lot of stores and checked online shops to get everything I needed. I chose some really good ones.
- Building the Case: I tried different materials and techniques to get the case right. It was a lot of trial and error, but I learned a lot in the process.
- Working on the Movement: This was the most challenging part. I had to be really patient and precise with the tiny parts. But when I got it, it was the most satisfying thing in the world.
After all the hard work, I finally had my own version of the 5227G-010. It wasn’t perfect, of course, but it was pretty close for a handmade job. And, more importantly, I had a blast making it. I did it. It looked really good, I think. I put it on and show it to my friends, they are all amazed by the details!
