Okay, so I’ve been into watches for a while now, and I’ve always admired the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso. It’s just such a classic, you know? Finally decided to pull the trigger and get one, specifically the Reverso Tribute Monoface, and man, let me tell you, it’s been a journey.
The Hunt
First off, finding the right one wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. I mean, there are so many different Reverso models out there. You got your Monoface, your Duetto, your Tribute, and a bunch of others. They vary a lot. Decided to go for the Tribute because I wanted something that felt close to the original 1931 design. That’s when I realized the Tribute Monoface just got a new size this year, 40.1 x 24.4 mm, which is pretty darn close to the original.
So, I started hitting up all the authorized dealers in my area. Called a few, visited a couple, but no luck. Either they didn’t have the new Tribute Monoface, or they had some crazy waiting list. I even tried looking online, but I was a bit hesitant to buy such an expensive watch without seeing it in person.
The Find
After a few weeks of searching, I finally struck gold. There’s this small, family-owned jewelry store a bit out of town that I’d never been to before. I decided to give them a call, and lo and behold, they had one in stock! I was so pumped, I drove there the next day.
Walking into the store, I was immediately greeted by this older gentleman who, turns out, was the owner. We started chatting about watches, and he showed me the Reverso Tribute Monoface. Seeing it in person, I knew it was the one. The size was perfect, the dial was gorgeous, and the whole watch just felt so well-made. It’s got those classic three-lined gadroons and the 12 Arabic numerals, just like the original. And those sword hands? Chef’s kiss.
The Purchase
Now, I’m not gonna lie, these watches aren’t cheap. We’re talking a serious investment here. But I’d done my research, and I knew that Jaeger-LeCoultre watches generally hold their value pretty well. Plus, I’d been saving up for this for a while, so I felt comfortable with the price.
After trying it on and admiring it for a good half hour, I decided to go for it. The owner was super helpful, walked me through all the paperwork, and even gave me a nice little discount. Walked out of that store with the biggest grin on my face, and the Reverso Tribute Monoface on my wrist.
Living with the Reverso
I’ve been wearing this watch for a couple of months now, and I gotta say, I’m loving it. It’s surprisingly versatile. I thought it would be too dressy for everyday wear, but it actually looks great with jeans and a t-shirt. Feels good on the wrist, not too heavy, not too light.
Some people might say it’s a watch for older folks, but I disagree. I feel like it adds a touch of class to any outfit, no matter your age. Sure, it’s a bit of a throwback to the 1930s, but that’s part of its charm. It’s a sports watch at heart, designed for polo players back in the day, but it’s also a total gentleman’s watch. It’s unique, it’s stylish, and it’s a conversation starter.
All in all, getting this Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Monoface has been a great experience. It was a bit of a hunt, but definitely worth it. If you’re thinking about getting one, I say go for it. Just be prepared to do some searching, and maybe save up a bit.
- It is a great investment.
- It is a classic design.
- It is a good daily watch.
That’s my story with the JLC Reverso. Hope you enjoyed it. It is a good watch!
